Inspired by the last line in a poem by mathematician Jacob Bronowski - ‘We gape at wonders and forget to see.’, Asterism 1 overlooks a mysterious hooded figure sitting before the beauty of a metallic asterism.
The first in a series of ‘Asterisms’. Just like the constellations, these shapes are anamorphic - they can only be seen from one viewpoint. The reference images for these paintings are created in Blender and Unreal Engine where materials and lighting can be quickly tweaked before putting brush to canvas.
They are the result of 18 months of experimentation supported by the Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice grant. Each painting is accompanied by it’s 3D digital reference which can be transferred via email.
